The Skye and Lochalsh Beekeepers Association aims to promote all aspects of beekeeping in the Skye and Lochalsh area.
We are an active group of about 60 members, with a regular schedule of visits to members’ apiaries during the summer months, and talks and events during the winter.
Members of the association benefit from sharing knowledge and expertise amongst each other and through an extensive library of reference books and magazines, and visiting lecturers. Members also have the use of equipment owned by the association, including honey spinners and a heather honey press.
Whilst our weather means that our honey crops are often small, geographic isolation has enabled our bees to remain largely disease free, and varroa is absent from most of our area. One of the association’s aims is to try to supply new beekeepers, and beekeepers moving to the area, with locally-adapted, disease-free bees. If you are starting up beekeeping in our area, please contact us to discuss.
